Studio Calico kit--Marks and Co (August 2013)

This was my last month as a subscriber; I bought the main kit, the add-on paper kit and the 4x6 paper pad, then added in the embellishments I wanted by buying them at regular stores with discounts. Plus, as I was working each layout, I added in whatever I wanted, just because :)

The main kit:

add-on paper

I started using this kit in January 2014, and made my first layout for the 50 project challenge:

and made a base layout to eventually put pics of my scraproom on (when it's clean, lol)

then I set it aside and pretty much ignored it's existence. I finally pulled it out on Sunday and decided to see what I could do with it.

I really kind of struggled with this one and it took me awhile to figure out that it was because I had only cut 2 6x6 blocks, when I normally layer 3. I added in some die cuts to balance the black frame.

I like this one, and used mostly 4x6 cards, with a few 3x4 cards from my stash added in.

This one is really not my style, but I was trying to challenge myself to use the A side. Of course, after I was done and looked up the papers, I realized that it was the easier to use B side that was meant for use in the kit. Oops.

I pulled in an extra sheet of the Fancy Pants paper so I could do a coordinated background, and several DL Polka Dot Party PL cards.

This was I think the only time I used stickers from the kit (add-on). I don't usually find the main kit alphas too usable.

My favorite one :) I always knew I was going to use the sun paper for these pictures.

A scraplift of a layout in their gallery (except theirs was a about dimples).

Layering more of the 4x6 cards and scraps.

Overall, I used more of the B sides than A sides. I'm pleased with 10 layouts and 6 cards. I didn't really think that a lot of the embellishments from the add-ons matched very well so didn't really use them, but I do have pieces of the paper line they go to, so they'll get used eventually. This is what I have left:

Tennessee album

I did this album last year at our 3 day crop, but there are a couple layouts that still need journaling, and all of them need the "adventure number" filled in, but I want to make absolutely certain that I have all the layouts I want in there so they don't get misnumbered. But I want to get them up here before I forget and another 6 months go by without posting them.

Still need to do the title and itinerary pages.

These two have been posted before (from a Studio Calico kit):

Originally when I was making page kits for the album, Rick had helped me pick some nice green Heidi Swapp letters for the title. They added a nice pop of color, but I just couldn't bring my self to highlight "hooker" in such a way, lol. Looking at it now, it needs something over there, so I will probably add some green twine.

I so love the Simple Stories Take a Hike line and will miss it when I run out. Silhouette cut title.

Simple Stories Summer Fresh for the main Dollywood pics....my favorite line from them, ever. I am almost completely out now, sniff.

This one still needs a lot of journaling, to cover the specs of the ride, Brandon (the roller coaster hater) riding because it looked cool, Paige deciding to ride at the last minute on round 2 because it looked cool, and me riding and everyone having to hang out for 10 minutes because I was too pale/green to move much.

Silhouette cut paw print on Daredevil Falls.

At first I wasn't fond of OA Sasparilla, but I got it at a great price on clearance, and I absolutely love how this layout turned out. "mountain" cut on the Cameo from a free font.

BH sketch. Still needs the title (Silhoutte cut "Great Smokey Mountain National Park" that I have to figure out if I want to leave as an outline font or fill in)

Had to use wood veneer arrows to point out how close Rick is to the bear. I really like doing a full page title.

Silhouette store title. (hidden meaning: 9 wooden hearts for 9 of us on vacation)

And here is where I started getting lazy on Sunday about titles and journaling.  I really need to make sure that it is clear that Brandon was not doing the moonshine tasting, lol. He was just fluoxomed by his parents knocking back "baby shots" of 4 or 5 kinds of moonshine.

I think I finally decided to do the title running up the left side and journaling running down the right side.

This story (about Brandon reading the Percy Jackson books and wanting to visit the places, and Brooke's "how awkward!" in the art museum section that had a few nudes) will definitely be typed!

Still need the title and journaling.

50 Week Layout Challenge, weeks 1-5 and 2014 in 2014

I am really, really behind on posting things, partly because I haven't done a whole lot of scrapping lately :(
----------
A couple of the layouts from the Tennessee album I worked on during our crop in November still need journaling, but I think I'm going to photograph and post them anyway.

------------
PL 2013--I'm behind. I still kept taking pictures and writing everything down, but otherwise, until the January crop I hadn't worked on it since August. I have a few layouts mostly done, but I really need to make myself work on it.

------------------

PL2014--I wasn't even sure I was going to do it again this year, but I stumbled on a Youtube video that showed what is turning out to be a pretty easy way to stay caught up with it. I am current on photo printing and journaling through last week.

================================

2014 in 2014--one of the challenges on the message board is to use 2014 things in 2014. At first it sounds hard, but then you consider that you count everything. How I'm choosing to count:

1 point for each piece of pattern paper
1 point for each embellishment (i.e. 5 enamel dots = 5 points)
1 point for each alpha type (one alpha sticker set = 1 point, 2 sets =2 points, etc.)
1 point for each Silhouette cut
1 point for each stamp set
1 point for each punch
1 point for each sketch
etc

What I'm not counting
cardstock
paper scraps

new product does not count against me and purging/selling items does not help me

50 week layout challenge

Several of us kicked in $15 each to join the challenge of creating a layout every week for 50 weeks. There is over $600 up for grabs last time I paid attention, plus weekly prizes (which I've already won one of). Each person gets up to 5 "passes" where you can delay posting your layout for a week if you are out of town or ill or whatever. So far I haven't used any.

Week #1
This is the only layout I've done so far from my last Studio Calico kit. I jus can't get excited to use kits right now. (11 points)

Week #2
Our Greek Festival adventure. The little dancing guys on the bottom of the right page are cut from two copies of wallet photos. (18 points)

Week #3
Still not entirely pleased with how this one turned out. (16 points)

Week #4
I bought this Carta Bella paper kit at Hobby Lobby just to use with these pictures. (21 points)

Week #5
Pretty pleased with this one. (20 points). Home is cut from the Silhouette using the free Pacifico font.

2014 in 2014 total: 250/2014 (includes some PL spreads I've been working on)
