Workspace Wednesday, 9/24

Almost ready to show photos of the room as a whole :)

For now...how I track my supplies.

Awhile back, Target had some 6x8 ring bound albums market down to $2.71, so I picked up several white and a few red. I was using a spiral bound notebook to keep track of supplies, but it was getting ragged and not really set up how I wanted, and the ring binder and loose leaf paper makes it so much easier.

Earlier this year I went through and made lists of all the manufacturer lines that I had products from. It was very eye opening to see exactly what I had (since theme stuff is stored by theme and the rest was stored by manufacturer or color or what not) all in one place. It was the genesis for the whole purging/downsizing/selling stuff.

Loose leaf paper makes it easy to sort by manufacturer (in alphabetical order) and replace pages as they get marked up. I write down everything...

...cross out what I sell or give away...

...and put a smiley next to the stuff I use up.
So far I like it and it's working well, and it keeps things in perspective, as far as how much consumables I have.

Sketches #3 and #4

For the 6x6 paper pad sketch class:

#3
This one was pretty easy to adapt, just trim the 6x6 blocks down a little. Paper pad is CP Fourteen, a Valentine line. Journaling is on a pull out card.

#4
This one wasn't too bad to adapt. I trimmed the 6x6 blocks up top down to 4.25" wide by 5" tall. The picture and title section is 6" tall. The photos were trimmed and placed to fit.

I'm much more of a eyeball and wing it scrapbooker, so having to measure and figure out work arounds is taking some of the fun out of it for me, so I haven't yet completed sketches 5 and 6, and the class is already on to sketch #7. I'll finish it as I feel like it.

6x6 sketch class, sketches 1 and 2

I'm playing along (on a message board) with a self-paced, downloadable class available at scrapbookgeneration.com called 6x6 paper pads with Allison Davis. For $15 you get 11 downloadable (and reusable) sketches, examples and tips for layouts using 6x6 paper pads. Since I have a ton of them, I decided to play along this round.

Sketch #1

Because I scrap 8.5x11 (the sketches are all 12x12), I have to make some adjustments. One was to remove a 4x6 photo from the right side, and to replace a 4x6 on the left side with a smaller photo. The entire time I was working on it, I didn't like how it was turning out, but now that I see it, it's not so bad.

Because I didn't like it, I did it again with another set of photos and I like this one better. I went a completely different direction with the title than what the sketch called for, but I like to use colorful papers, and it was too hard to make the title stand out on top of all the banners.

I'm not entirely sure if the 3x4 card works in place of a square photo, but I kind of like how it makes it look a little less uniform.

Sketch #2
I really struggled with this sketch, mostly because of the difference is page sizes. On the first layout I tried, I cut the patterned paper squares down to 5x5, which meant the photos had to be 2.5x2.5 to line up under the paper, but I didn't want to cut the pictures I had picked out down that small. So then I pulled out another set of photos. I kept moving them around, but quickly realized they would work much better with sketch #4. Finally, I decided to keep the papers 6x6 and the photos 3x3, which meant I needed photos with more open space in them. Originally I cut the photo of Brandon with his boogie board as 3x3 and cut it so that it spanned the pages but when I went to actually glue the photos down I forgot the piece for the right hand side. That oversight ended up working well (and I didn't even notice until I was photographing the pages), since it gave me a little more room for the smaller photos.
